difficult process of opening a window.
- The Window Lifter may be used in the absence of strength or limited mobility
in the upper back and upper extremities.
- Additionally, the Window Lifter can act as an energy conservation technique.
Design:
- The Window Lifter consists of three components: the lever arm, the fulcrum
and the base.
- The materials used in the prototype are wood and nails. However, a strong
high-temperature plastic may also be utilized.
- A non-slip rubber bottom (such as dycem) adds greater stability at the base
of the Window lifter.
Indications:
- This product is intended for individuals age five and older.
- The Window Lifter can be used by people who have diminished upper extremity
strength and endurance or have a unilateral amputation of an upper extremity.
Precautions:
- The Window Lifter is not intended for those individuals with upper extremity
non-weight bearing precautions as it could cause further injury.
Method
of Use:
- In order to use the Window Lifter, one must have minimal shoulder flexion
and elbow flexion and extension.
- Additionally, appropriate strength in triceps during elbow extension is required
to operate the Window Lifter.
- Place the mechanism on the window sill.
- The smaller of the two levers is placed under the lip of the window.
- Then push down on the longer leaver to initiate the process of opening the
window.
